Dr Manuel M. Morente, president of the European, Middle Eastern and African Society for Biopreservation and Biobanking (ESBB) and coordinator of the Spanish National Biobank Network, visited the Dr Josep Trueta University Hospital of Girona on Thursday to give a conference about the role that biobanks play in the medical and research sector. The speech has been organised by the IDIBGI Biobank in order to raise awareness among researchers of how biobanks can make their work more effective.
Morente praised the Dr Josep Trueta Girona Biomedical Research Institute (IDIBGI) as a biomedical centre in the region: “It is growing, it is in a phase of development because it was created not that long ago, but its quality and importance have surprised me”. As published in the Diari de Girona, the expert also remarked that biobanks are an essential piece in medical research and that we should not stress the quantity but rather the quality of the tissues that are stored there.
